குடியரசுத்தலைவருக்கு அனுப்பிய கடிதம்

சென்ற ஆண்டு செப்டம்பரில் தமிழ் வலைப்பதிவுகளின் நிலை பற்றியும், அறிவியலாளர், சமூகத்தோடு தொடர்புகளைப் பேணுவதில் ஆர்வம் காட்டுபவர், தமிழில் கவிதைகள் எழுதுபவர் என்ற வகையில், அவரையும் வலைப்பதிக்க அழைத்து ஒரு மடல் எழுதினேன். இன்றுவரை மடல் கிடைத்ததத்ற்கான ஒப்புகையோ, அவரின் பதிலோ கிடைக்கவில்லை. மடலில் கொஞ்சம் பெருமையடிப்பும் தமிழ்மணம் தளத்துக்கு விளம்பரவாசமும் தெரியலாம், ஆனாலும் உதவியாளரை விட்டுப் பதில் எழுதச்சொல்லக்கூட முடியாமல் போகும் அளவுக்கு இது ஒதுக்கத்தக்கதா என்று தெரியவில்லை. பிறந்தநாள் காணும் அப்துல் கலாம் அவர்களுக்கு வாழ்த்து சொல்ல நண்பர்கள் அவரின் மின்னஞ்சல் முகவரியைக் கொடுத்திருப்பது கண்டு இதை பொதுவில் சொல்லத்தோன்றியது. அவ்வளவுதான். அன்புள்ள மேதகு குடியரசுத்தலைவர் திரு. அப்துல் கலாம் அவர்களுக்கு,

தமிழகத்தின் கோவை மாவட்டத்தைச் சேர்ந்த என் பெயர் காசி(லிங்கம்) ஆறுமுகம். பணிநிமித்தமாக அமெரிக்காவில் தற்போழுது வசிக்கிறேன். 200க்கும் மேற்பட்ட தமிழ் வலைப்பதிவாளர்கள் (bloggers) சமுதாயத்தின் ஒரு பிரதிநிதியாக இந்த மடலை எழுதுகிறேன்.

'வலைப்பதிவுகள்' என்று தமிழில் அழைக்கப்படும் வெப்லாக்ஸ் (Web logs, in short, BLOGS) இன்றைய இணையத் தொழில்நுட்பம் சாதித்துக்காட்டியிருக்கும் இன்னொரு கருத்துப் பரிமாற்றப் புரட்சி எனலாம். இன்றைக்கு 12 லட்சம் வலைப்பதிவுகள் ஆங்கிலத்தில் இருப்பதாக ஒரு மதிப்பீடு சொல்கிறது. இந்திய மொழிகளில் கணிமை(Computing) இன்னும் வளர்ச்சி அடையாத நிலையில் இந்தி உள்பட மற்ற இந்திய மொழிகளில் விரல்விட்டு எண்ணக்கூடியவையாகவே வலைப்பதிவுகள் எழுதப்படுகின்றன. தமிழில் வியக்கத்தக்க வகையில் சென்ற ஒரு வருட காலத்தில் சுமார் 200 வலைப்பதிவுகள் தோன்றி சமூகவியல், அறிவியல், இலக்கியம், அரசியல், வணிகம், விளையாட்டு, கணினியியல், மனையியல், பொழுதுபோக்கு என்ற பலவகைக் கருத்துக்களங்களில் தினமும் 25 புது விஷயங்களாவது எழுதப்படுகின்றன.

இந்த பிரமிக்கத்தக்க வளர்ச்சியின் அடுத்த பரிணாமமாக இத்தகைய வலைப்பதிவு முயற்சிகளை ஒருங்கிணைத்து ஒரு வலைவாசல்(web portal) அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இங்கு வலைப்பதிவுகளுடன் பட்டியலோடு, செய்தியோடை தொழில்நுட்பத்தின் உதவியால் (Newsfeed aggregation technology) இந்த வலைப்பதிவுகளில் புதிதாக என்ன எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளன என்ற விபரமும் திரட்டப்பட்டு, காணக்கிடைக்கிறது. அந்தத் தளத்தின் முகவரி: http://www.thamizmanam.com/

As computing in Indian Languages is yet to gather momentum, there are only a handful of blogs written in any Indian language other than Tamil, including Hindi. It is an amazing fact that there are around 200 blogs in Tamil today, with some 25 posts everyday written on Social issues, Science and Technology, Literature, Politics, Business, Sports, Computing, Entertainment and whatnot.

Honourable dear Mr. President,

I am Kasilingam Arumugam, native of Coimbatore district of Tamilnadu, presently in USA on official duty, writing on behalf of the 200-strong Tamil Bloggers' community.

Tamil blogs have evolved into a next level, through a new webportal that integrates these efforts. Struggling to compete against the mighty English, Indian lanaguage computing is at a very beginning stage. It can grow fast only when the usage spreads, and more and more content is available. Only then, required software, standards, tools and techniques can develop. A government or a few organizations alone cannot make this happen. Broader, multi-faceted effort is required to make this happen. Weblogs serve a very useful purpose in this context.

As a person who is an enthusiastic strong believer of the power of Technology, need for Social Upliftment, Freedom and soveriegnity, you would appreciate the role of weblogs. This letter is intended to highlight these efforts. I strongly believe that oneday you will ceratainly use weblogs as a means of communicating your ideas to the millions of youths who look forward to you as their hope for the future. I will be immensely happy if you could also share your ideas in Tamil, by having a Tamil blog.
